Dating The It Guy Review

Hello lovelies!

I'm taking a bit of a break from blogging at the moment but I'm back for a bit with another book review to share with you all!

Dating the It Guy by Krysten Lindsay Hager

Emme is a sophomore in high school who starts dating, Brendon Agretti, the popular senior who happens to be a senator's son and well-known for his good looks. Emme feels out of her comfort zone in Brendon's world and it doesn't help that his picture perfect ex, Lauren seems determined to get back into his life along with every other girl who wants to be the future Mrs. Agretti. Emme is already conflicted due to the fact her last boyfriend cheated on her and her whole world is off kilter with her family issues. Life suddenly seems easier keeping Brendon away and relying on her crystals and horoscopes to guide her. Emme soon starts to realize she needs to focus less on the stars and more on her senses. Can Emme get over her insecurities and make her relationship work? Life sure is complicated when you're dating the it guy.

Let's be honest, we all love a good romance! I know I bloody do! I'm such a soppy romantic at heart! I adore a good love story! And I love a YA romance! So when the chance to review this book popped into my inbox, I thought why not!

Emme is just like any teenage girl trying to navigate life and life while battling her insecurities and feelings of inadequacy. I'm not a teenager any longer so at times I wanted to reach into the book and slap some sense into her but honestly at times she reminded me of myself as a teenager.

It's a funny and relatable read but not without it's drama with a touch of angst thrown in for good measure. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it if you want a quick read, it's just under 300 pages, to switch off and get immersed in for a couple of hours. I'd say this is a perfect book to take on holiday with you or to do what I did and read it in front of the fire on a snow day! It transported me back to my days of being a teen when I would read Sweet Valley High and the Babysitter Club books in the school library at lunchtime.

Besides mining her teen years and humiliating moments for her novels, Krysten is also a book addict who has never met a bookstore she didn’t like. Krysten writes about friendship, self-esteem, fitting in, frenemies, crushes, fame, first loves, and values. She is the author of True Colors, Best Friends...Forever?, Next Door to a Star, Landry in Like, Competing with the Star (The Star Series: Book 2), and Dating the It Guy. Her debut novel, True Colors, won the Readers Favorite award for best preteen book and the Dayton Book Expo Best Sellers award. Krysten's work has been featured in USA Today, The Flint Journal, the Grand Haven Tribune, the Beavercreek Current, the Grand Blanc View, the Bellbrook Times and on Living Dayton.

  1. Thanks for reading and reviewing Dating the It Guy. I used to sit in the school library reading the Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley High books, too :)

  2. You can't beat a good romance! It's great to hear that this book was so relatable to your own teenage experiences, it sounds like Emme is a lot like me when I was younger as well haha! I'm intrigued to hear about how the story ends, so I will have to pick up a copy! The elements of horoscopes and crystals sound really interesting too and not something you'd usually expect from a romance - anything different is always good!
